We will analyse the impact architecture has on viewing art with seminars which will take place in some of London\u2019s most famous museums and galleries such as the British Museum, Tate Modern, and the Victoria &amp; Albert Museum. The course will then consider alternatives to this model, including more recent curatorial phenomena by organisations such as ArtAngel which commission contemporary artists to make artworks in unexpected places: from a performance in an abandoned Underground station to a concrete cast of an entire house. Through the lens of specific case studies of art and architecture, the course will examine relevant critical issues such as race, globalisation, and environmental justice. Taken individually, each of these stories or images mirror a society at a specific time but, together, they also illustrate the evolution of our thought-systems, philosophies, moral values, and spiritualities.  Today, at a time when global environmental and health concerns are growing, and in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic, apocalyptic representations are still permeating many discourses, from the arts to politics and economics, from gender to science, AI and the physical world. In particular, we will investigate the role of credit for economic growth, why do banks exist and how do they compete. We will then research how banks possibly triggered the Great Financial Crisis (2007-8) as well as governments\u2019 policies in response. Finally, we will devote our attention to the most recent development in the money and credit markets, such as blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies, with specific emphasis on bitcoins. We will visit the nanoscale quantum universe, and see how nanoscale objects can be tuned for disease targeting. It seeks to understand what it is to use language or what we do when we use language (Verschueren 1999). Among many other things, it seeks to understand how jokes work; why the utterance \u201cIt\u2019s true, I swear!\u201d can be an answer to \u201cGet out of here!\u201d; why, when asked to do something we do not want to do, we prefer to say \u201cwell\u2026\u201d instead of \u201cNo\u201d. The module is divided into three units, approximately corresponding to three weeks. In the first week, students explore basic theoretical concepts in pragmatics, such as Grice\u2019s maxims of conversation, conversational implicatures, deixis, and speech acts. Equipped with this theoretical background, in week 2, they explore key analytical (and contentious) issues such as salience and implicit meaning by analysing different types of discourse.   Week 3 is dedicated to analysing conversational interaction, which, in Conversation Analysis scholarship, is known as the main building block of society. Finally we will examine if previous cycles of repression like slavery for example make countries more likely to use violence today. Many people with a mental disorder \u2013 and the majority of those living in low-income countries \u2013 still have no access to the treatments they need. This module will offer students from a range of backgrounds such as social sciences, medicine, psychology, an understanding of basic principles of how mental disorders present themselves, the impact on individuals and the possibilities for recovery and treatment advances. Transcripts for the Cannes Semester programs are issued by Chapman University.)<br>&nbsp;<br>Transcripts may come without an English-language translation, so participants will need to organize translations with their home university.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-academic-records\">Academic Records<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit assessment methods in overseas universities may not be comparable to those in U.S. universities. Grading may involve exams, papers, individual projects, class discussion or some combination of these. Although academic institutions abroad may grade on a variety of scales, admissions counselors and registrars at U.S. institutions are familiar with international grading systems and can convert grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-course-selection\">Course Selection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AIFS Abroad Program Advisors are available to assist you in the process. The following procedure is recommended:<br><br>Read course descriptions for the selected program and select courses. Obtain approval from your academic or study abroad advisor for the preliminary courses selected. Final approval of credit transfer for completed courses is at the discretion of the Registrar or appropriate official at the home institution. Students must ascertain that courses taken meet their individual academic program requirements.
