One course is offered per session. Each course is 60 hours and carries 4 semester credits. Students wishing to take courses at UAL should typically have one year of experience in the course subject matter unless applying for an introductory course. Some courses require a portfolio as part of the application. This may be in the form of images, videos or written work depending on the subject area. Students should consult with their university advisors in the U.S. prior to participating in the program to have course credit pre-approved.<\/p>\n<p>Course offerings vary by session. The industrial design student of today is just as comfortable designing for public discourse and services as well as the traditional object-based foundations of the discipline. At Central Saint Martins students are expected to show a willingness to engage in practice through a unique range of processes and technical skills. This 3-week intensive course will help students, who may not be entirely familiar with the design process, learn how to develop projects through the use of key technical skills including; research techniques, sketching, prototyping, CAD &amp; CAM. On the course you will respond to open and concept-based projects and you will be encouraged to develop your own unique approach to realising your ideas. The course will encourage you to work in any medium that is appropriate to the concept of your project. You will be presented with short one-day projects, and longer projects of up to a week, designed to challenge you and encourage new ways of working. You will have the freedom to experiment with a range of disciplines, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and performance. The course is studio and practice based and work on the projects is complemented by a programme of presentations, group discussions, critiques and talks from visiting arts professionals, including artists and curators. We focus on discussion during the course and talking about your work in the context of contemporary art practices. The course will assist you in developing practical, critical and conceptual skills necessary to encourage your own development as an artist. You will also receive an introduction to London\u2019s contemporary art scene via gallery trips to the harder to find London galleries to complement and contextualise the work that you are making. This means we are interested in thinking about design from a broad range of perspectives that challenge conventional understandings of the discipline. During this intensive three-week course, you will experience a taster of the five study Platforms that make up the undergraduate Graphic Communication Design programme here at Central Saint Martins. These platforms will introduce you to a range of ways of thinking and feeling about design. The Platforms in question are: Experience &amp; Environment, Information &amp; Systems, Narrative &amp; Voice, Strategy &amp; identity, and Time &amp; Movement. Within each Platform experience you will be given a di9erent project brief to challenge your understanding of the subject. These short projects will stimulate your thinking and enable you to become more confident of your own areas of interest and specialism. While embarking on these projects there will be opportunities to explore the city, thus enabling you to experience what London has to o9er as a world- renowned cultural destination. The final week of the course will provide a more open-ended studio environment to enable you to bring more of your own personal position and agenda to the fore. AIFS Abroad students must make special arrangements to transfer credits, but since AIFS Abroad courses are given at recognized universities or the AIFS Abroad Centers (which are transcripted by Fairfield University), there usually is no difficulty in arranging transfer credit toward U.S. degrees provided the proper procedure is followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-european-credit-transfer-system-ects\">European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the European institutions that AIFS Abroad works with award credits under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS enables cooperating institutions to measure and compare a student\u2019s performance and facilitates the transfer of credits from the European institution to the U.S institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-european-framework-of-reference-cefr\">Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Language levels are defined according to the CEFR and will be listed on your transcript on completion of the program. CEFR organizes language proficiency into six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) which can be regrouped into three broad levels according to the needs of the local institution: Beginner: A1, A2\/U.S. Level 100; Intermediate: B1, B2\/U.S. Level 200-300; Advanced: C1, C2\/U.S. Level 400<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transcripts\">Transcripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you complete your program, an official transcript is sent to your home institution directly from&nbsp;AIFS Abroad or the host university.&nbsp;Another official transcript may be retained by&nbsp;AIFS Abroad in Stamford, but this is not the case for all programs.
