class=\"block-program-options__td\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This program is designed for students who wish to study multiple courses from a broad range of subjects, such as art history, drawing, entrepreneurship, fashion, history, marketing, painting, photography, sociology, communication, religion and psychology, all focusing on Italian life and culture. These are all 3-credit courses and are taught in English.<\/p>\n<p>Italian Language, taught by mother-tongue professors, is offered at all levels from Elementary to Advanced. Students registering for any Italian language level higher than Elementary I must take and pass an on-line placement test prior to arrival in Florence. Students at an Elementary level who wish to reach a good ability in spoken Italian can also choose a 6-credit Italian language course.<\/p>\n<p>Students can take up to 5 courses for a total of 15 credits. If they wish, students can also add the \u201cItalian Art: Selected Topics\u201d course for 1-credit<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a grade. Pass\/Fail options are not available.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The course offering on this program is subject to change pending anticipated enrollment. Applicants will indicate their interest in certain courses at the time they apply, but the final course registration will take place after acceptance and closer to the program start date, with detailed instructions provided by the AIFS Abroad Program Advisor.<\/p>\n<p>Acceptance into the program is not a guarantee of enrollment in a specific course. Students will list their primary courses and several alternative courses for approval by their home campus to allow for flexibility during final course registration. During the registration period a course may quickly be filled, and a student might need to be on a course waitlist and register for an alternate option. Whenever possible we endeavor to make additional sections of popular courses available, but it is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transcripts<\/strong> are issued by Fairfield University, the AIFS Abroad School of Record. An official transcript will be sent directly to the student&#8217;s home university on completion of the program. Discussions and critiques are an important part of this course aimed to develop students\u2019 conceptual skills, critical and visual vocabulary of art, creative expression. It aims to reinforce basic drawing skills and introduces additional drawing media and techniques focusing on linear perspective, objects, spatial perception and human anatomy. Some classes and the relevant assignments will focus on a more realistic approach, others will focus on more conceptual approaches such as abstraction and surrealism. Although this course has an historico-political focus it follows a multidisciplinary approach considering also the sociological aspect of Mafia not only viewing it as a form of organized crime. The criminal justice component of the course will take into consideration the history of the fight against it by critically examining the achievements and shortcomings of Italy\u2019s government throughout the years, and the efforts, often successful, made by Italian law to enforce its fight against organized crime from the early 1990s onwards. Its most recent developments and its move towards a global dimension of crime are analysed in the last part of the course. AIFS Abroad students must make special arrangements to transfer credits, but since AIFS Abroad courses are given at recognized universities or the AIFS Abroad Centers (which are transcripted by Fairfield University), there usually is no difficulty in arranging transfer credit toward U.S. degrees provided the proper procedure is followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-european-credit-transfer-system-ects\">European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the European institutions that AIFS Abroad works with award credits under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS enables cooperating institutions to measure and compare a student\u2019s performance and facilitates the transfer of credits from the European institution to the U.S institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-european-framework-of-reference-cefr\">Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Language levels are defined according to the CEFR and will be listed on your transcript on completion of the program. CEFR organizes language proficiency into six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) which can be regrouped into three broad levels according to the needs of the local institution: Beginner: A1, A2\/U.S. Level 100; Intermediate: B1, B2\/U.S. Level 200-300; Advanced: C1, C2\/U.S. Level 400<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transcripts\">Transcripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you complete your program, an official transcript is sent to your home institution directly from&nbsp;AIFS Abroad or the host university.&nbsp;Another official transcript may be retained by&nbsp;AIFS Abroad in Stamford, but this is not the case for all programs. Please contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:transcripts@aifs.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transcripts@aifs.com<\/a>&nbsp;to find out how to request additional transcripts.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Generally, your school should receive your transcript&nbsp;60 days after completion of the program.&nbsp;(Cannes Semester programs,&nbsp;Perth, Sydney, Dublin, Limerick, and Wellington&nbsp;Programs&nbsp;exception: Transcripts issued&nbsp;and retained&nbsp;by&nbsp;the host&nbsp;universities. Transcripts for the Cannes Semester programs are issued by Chapman University.)<br>&nbsp;<br>Transcripts may come without an English-language translation, so participants will need to organize translations with their home university.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-academic-records\">Academic Records<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit assessment methods in overseas universities may not be comparable to those in U.S. universities. Grading may involve exams, papers, individual projects, class discussion or some combination of these. Although academic institutions abroad may grade on a variety of scales, admissions counselors and registrars at U.S. institutions are familiar with international grading systems and can convert grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-course-selection\">Course Selection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AIFS Abroad Program Advisors are available to assist you in the process. The following procedure is recommended:<br><br>Read course descriptions for the selected program and select courses. Obtain approval from your academic or study abroad advisor for the preliminary courses selected. Final approval of credit transfer for completed courses is at the discretion of the Registrar or appropriate official at the home institution. Students must ascertain that courses taken meet their individual academic program requirements.
