Students exceeding the permitted number of absences may lose all or partial credit.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Course Selection<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> The program fee includes one 3-credit course chosen from those listed. For a supplemental fee of approximately $TBC you can take two courses for a total of 6 credits (two subject courses or a German language course and a subject course). Bear in mind that taking two courses in 3 weeks is a heavy workload should you be considering this option. Courses taken for transfer credit should be approved by your advisor or appropriate person at your home school prior to registration.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Grades<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a grade. The course shows and discusses new perspectives of how cities can be developed greener, sustainable and resilient.  The classes will deal with the history of urban agriculture and garden cultures, for example from the old Persian world and the ancient cultures from Asia, Europe, North and South America. The students will follow in the footsteps of Alexander von Humboldt, who attempted to explain nature in its complexity through his research trips within Europe, South and North America, and Asia at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries.  The course will discuss the history, current role and the future of urban gardening locally and worldwide. For the best outcome to support the students&#8217; progress, different methods are used according to the level and topics covered in class. According to the level of the participants, there might be a focus on certain exercises, in-class discussions and activities.&lt;br\/&gt;&lt;br\/&gt;The respective schedule and content strongly depend on different aspects such as the course book and reading materials, the background of the students and personal interests in terms of topics. Some hope Germany will take on the mantle of \u201cleader of the free world\u201d. While it is true that Germany has entered a phase of \u201cnew responsibility\u201d in its foreign policy and remains strongly committed to the liberal order and global sustainability, it is becoming more and more difficult for such powers to project its influence into the global order. The course will take this German perspective as a starting point to try to understand the state of global governance more broadly. Who are the indispensable nations? Who are the spoilers? What kind of cooperation is needed to save the planet? Whose Global Order is it? How to save the world? We will look at multilateralist and unilateralist behavior of states, and also at recent efforts to bring more sustainability to global governance. AIFS Abroad students must make special arrangements to transfer credits, but since AIFS Abroad courses are given at recognized universities or the AIFS Abroad Centers (which are transcripted by Fairfield University), there usually is no difficulty in arranging transfer credit toward U.S. degrees provided the proper procedure is followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-european-credit-transfer-system-ects\">European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the European institutions that AIFS Abroad works with award credits under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS enables cooperating institutions to measure and compare a student\u2019s performance and facilitates the transfer of credits from the European institution to the U.S institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-common-european-framework-of-reference-cefr\">Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Language levels are defined according to the CEFR and will be listed on your transcript on completion of the program. CEFR organizes language proficiency into six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) which can be regrouped into three broad levels according to the needs of the local institution: Beginner: A1, A2\/U.S. Level 100; Intermediate: B1, B2\/U.S. Level 200-300; Advanced: C1, C2\/U.S. Level 400<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transcripts\">Transcripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you complete your program, an official transcript is sent to your home institution directly from&nbsp;AIFS Abroad or the host university.&nbsp;Another official transcript may be retained by&nbsp;AIFS Abroad in Stamford, but this is not the case for all programs. Please contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:transcripts@aifs.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transcripts@aifs.com<\/a>&nbsp;to find out how to request additional transcripts.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Generally, your school should receive your transcript&nbsp;60 days after completion of the program.&nbsp;(Cannes Semester programs,&nbsp;Perth, Sydney, Dublin, Limerick, and Wellington&nbsp;Programs&nbsp;exception: Transcripts issued&nbsp;and retained&nbsp;by&nbsp;the host&nbsp;universities. Transcripts for the Cannes Semester programs are issued by Chapman University.)<br>&nbsp;<br>Transcripts may come without an English-language translation, so participants will need to organize translations with their home university.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-academic-records\">Academic Records<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit assessment methods in overseas universities may not be comparable to those in U.S. universities. Grading may involve exams, papers, individual projects, class discussion or some combination of these. Although academic institutions abroad may grade on a variety of scales, admissions counselors and registrars at U.S. institutions are familiar with international grading systems and can convert grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"block-card\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\t<div class=\"block-card__content\">\n\t\t\t\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-course-selection\">Course Selection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AIFS Abroad Program Advisors are available to assist you in the process. The following procedure is recommended:<br><br>Read course descriptions for the selected program and select courses. Obtain approval from your academic or study abroad advisor for the preliminary courses selected. Final approval of credit transfer for completed courses is at the discretion of the Registrar or appropriate official at the home institution.
